What you can pray for while we are there:

• Health & safety of team members (especially in regards to the heat)

• To make the most of every opportunity we are presented with
• Our team will demonstrate unity and brotherly love toward each other, our Honduran team members and our hosts
• We will build a foundation for future work, recognize open doors, and take the necessary steps of faith to dream big

• May we be an encouragement to our brothers at the Choluteca church, and receive encouragement from them as well

• The cultivation of our relationships with our brothers & sisters in Choluteca.
• Pray that we will be the eyes and ears of The Rock in Honduras, and that when we return, we can be the voice of Choluteca to our church and to our community.

• Make our hearts sensitive

Karla Cruz (2007)

Karla Cruz, a 32-year-old single mom with four sons, passed away on December 9, 2010. She is survived by 12-year-old son, Jorge, who also has HIV; 8-year-old, Brian; and 2-year-old twins, Eli and Elias, who are not infected.

Please be praying for Karla’s family during this difficult time.

The Life of Karla Cruz

Karla’s life has always been extremely difficult, making her difficult to reach. She spent part of her life as a member of a gang, and lost her husband to a rival gang. She was raised in a home with an alcoholic father and, thankfully, a Christian mother.

Karla was tested HIV positive, along with her son Jorge. She was also diagnosed with cervical cancer category two, syphilis, and papaloma. The Casa Hogar team began praying for Karla and felt that God was trying to break her. The team continued to pray for her and show her Christ’s love.

This information from Compassion International shows the challenge that is before the world in combating the causes and effects of HIV/AIDS…

The lies that poverty tells about HIV and AIDS.

• HIV testing is unreliable.
• HIV can be spread by sharing food or hugging an affected individual.
• HIV is transmitted by mosquitoes.
• An HIV-positive mother cannot have children.
• HIV only affects drug users.
• If an individual is receiving treatment for HIV or AIDS, he or she can’t spread the virus.

We can easily educate ourselves with books, the Internet, visits to the doctor, etc. However, these resources aren’t as readily available to those in the developing world surviving on less than $1.25 a day. The truth about HIV is that it’s a preventable and treatable disease.

So today, I have a very short to-do list for you: Do something to spread awareness about the truth of HIV and AIDS.

It’s a pretty simple task. Here are a few places that’ll help you get started:

As usual, our internet access will be hit or miss. Hopefully I’ll get to post at least once from Cholu.

Specific prayer requests:

• Health is a particular concern since temperatures in Cholu have been breaking 100F regularly the last couple weeks.
• Team unity & fellowship, including our Honduran team members that we’ll meet when we get there
• This year, we decided to hire 10 local workers to assist us with construction work. We’re hoping to learn some skills from them, and hoping to share a little Christian love with them as well.
• Pray that we will be as light a burden as possible to the church. We’re challenging ourselves to out-serve & out-encourage them!
• We have some big dreams and ideas for the future, please pray that God will guide us and give us discernment about if/how to proceed.
• Pray for the cultivation of our relationships with our brothers & sisters in Choluteca. Many of our returning team members have begun to build strong relationships, and 10 days never feels long enough.
• Pray that we will be the eyes and ears of The Rock in Honduras, and that when we return, we can be the voice of Choluteca to our church and to the campus.
• May our hearts be broken by the things that break the heart of God…

"She was admitted in to hospital today having trouble breathing. She is currently on a drip and looks weak, she also has a fever and cough.

Please pray for a swift recovery. She has a really good, supportive family, praise the Lord."

Keydi is 15 and was born with HIV. She has been recovering from a recent bout with pneumonia, and had lost a lot of weight.  She was excited to return to school after her illness, so pray for encouragement for her during this difficult time.
