Casa Hogar Vida: In Memory of Karla Cruz

Karla Cruz (2007)

Karla Cruz, a 32-year-old single mom with four sons, passed away on December 9, 2010. She is survived by 12-year-old son, Jorge, who also has HIV; 8-year-old, Brian; and 2-year-old twins, Eli and Elias, who are not infected.

Please be praying for Karla’s family during this difficult time.

The Life of Karla Cruz

Karla’s life has always been extremely difficult, making her difficult to reach. She spent part of her life as a member of a gang, and lost her husband to a rival gang. She was raised in a home with an alcoholic father and, thankfully, a Christian mother.

Karla was tested HIV positive, along with her son Jorge. She was also diagnosed with cervical cancer category two, syphilis, and papaloma. The Casa Hogar team began praying for Karla and felt that God was trying to break her. The team continued to pray for her and show her Christ’s love.

Keydi Paola Osorto

I’ve put off writing this entry for awhile. Too long. And I apologize for that. I wanted to write something eloquent. But I find words difficult.

On September 7, I received this email from Ian:

Stevi,

Today has been a very difficult day for us here in Choluteca. Keydi Paola died today at 3 pm.

She was admitted in to hospital on Friday and we have been shipping down medication from Tegucigalpa because they did not sell it here in Choluteca. She was really sick on Saturday but when we visited yesterday with Pastor Giovanny she seemed much better.

Sadly I received a call saying they needed more medication urgently at around 12 midday. The medication was due to get to Choluteca at 4pm. It would not have made much difference the doctor said because TB had set in and her defenses were so low.

Praise the Lord she accepted Christ with a Pastor from Cedar Creek Ohio and the CHV team had a chance to confirm here acceptance on Saturday, I was really privileged to be asked to pray for her around 5 minutes before she passed away. She was peaceful when I told her God was there with her.

Thank you for your prayers and your support in all we do, our work here would be much harder than it is without your input. For us it has confirmed once again the importance of the support groups who have rallied around carrying out various things needed before and after Keydi’s death.

Please pray for one of the Casa Hogar children, Keydi Paola.

Ian sent this along today:

"She was admitted in to hospital today having trouble breathing. She is currently on a drip and looks weak, she also has a fever and cough.

Please pray for a swift recovery. She has a really good, supportive family, praise the Lord."

Keydi is 15 and was born with HIV. She has been recovering from a recent bout with pneumonia, and had lost a lot of weight. She was excited to return to school after her illness, so pray for encouragement for her during this difficult time.

Casa Hogar Vida Diagrams

We talk a lot about Casa Hogar Vida, and I know sometimes the descriptions (AIDS Orphanage, Family Support Center, etc) can sometimes be vague and confusing. Luckily, as I was sorting through some of my Honduras supplies in preparation for the March 20th trip, I came across some diagrams I picked up from the CHV team last year. Hopefully these will help you understand a little better what CHV will be like. These are diagrams of the "orphanage" part of the CHV project. There will also be a community of low-cost homes, several workshops, and a farm. Remember, the whole project is still very much in the construction phase, so most of these things don’t exist yet.
