Passport Info

IMPORTANT:

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the trip dates, in order to be accepted by Honduran immigration. If your passport expires within 6 months of the trip, you will need to get it renewed before the trip.

From the U.S. State Department:

If possible, you should renew your passport approximately nine (9) months before it expires. Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six (6) months beyond the dates of your trip. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met.

Entry/Exit Requirements: A U.S. passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry is required to enter Honduras. A visa is not required for American citizens, but tourists must provide evidence of return or onward travel. Parents should not rely on birth certificates for their children’s travel; rather, prior to travel they should obtain U.S. passports for infants and minors born in the United States. U.S. citizens are encouraged to carry a photocopy of their U.S. passports with them at all times so that if questioned by local officials proof of identity and U.S. citizenship are readily available.

HOW TO GET/RENEW A PASSPORT:

1. Print a passport application.

  • You need Adobe Acrobat to print the file.
  • You can also get an application at the Post Office.

2. You will need to have a passport picture taken. Walgreens, Walmart, and some Kinkos provide this service.

3. Make sure you have someone else read over your application to make sure you have filled everything out correctly (I had an application rejected because I missed one of the signature lines!).

  • If you are getting a passport for the first time, or are renewing a passport that was issued when you were under 16, you’ll need to sign it in front of a passport agent.  Don’t sign it before you take it to them, they have to witness the signature.

4.  Take your application to a passport Acceptance Facility

  • Remember to take all the necessary ID (certified birth certificate – with the raised seal, Social Security Card, and Drivers License will do the trick.  There are other options if you don’t have these).
  • If you are getting a passport for the first time, or are renewing a passport that was issued when you were under 16, you’ll need to sign it in front of a passport agent.  Don’t sign it before you take it to them, they have to witness the signature.
  • Bring checks for the fees, written to the appropriate agencies.

5. Send in your application at least 2 months before the trip.
