We left on March 23 from St. Louis and returned on March 30. Seventeen college students from The Rock went. We worked in a town called La Ceiba, Honduras, a suburban area on the northern coast of Honduras.
Our activities included:
CONSTRUCTION – we shoveled dirt and leveled the floor for different levels of seating in the new church building. Then we mixed concrete and poured the floor. A few people also did some welding.
FOOD FOR KIDS - most kids in Honduras go home for lunch. But for some kids, there’s no food at home. So the government sponsors feeding centers for poor kids. Usually the kids get rice, beans, or noodles. We were able to provide full lunches (with basic food groups) for 53 kids for three days. We also ministered to them through puppets, singing, playing games, and coloring books.
SCHOOLS – we did a full gospel presentation using crafts, music, puppets, and testimonies for two schools. We also shared hygiene and school kits with the kids.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD – we visited a remote town that had been chosen to recieve shoebox gifts from Samaritan’s Purse. We did a full gospel presentation there with puppets, music, drama, and testimony.
SOCCER – we built relationships with a lot of the "problem kids" in town. Many of them don’t go to school consistently, and some may be involved in gangs. Everyday, some of our athletic teammates got together to play soccer with the kids. A lot of them came with us to the youth meeting at the church on Saturday.
MUSIC – we had two talented guitarrists and a few awesome vocalists on the team. Besides leading our team devotionals in song, and playing at the schools, they also got the opportunity to play at the youth meeting on Saturday.
