COLUMBIA — Students at the University of Missouri are finishing up class work this week and packing up for a week long spring break.

While most may spend the week sleeping, working or vacationing, one group of students will be serving others. Members of The Rock Church hope a 10-day mission trip to Honduras will shape their future for years to come.

Inside boxes and bags they are taking with them are hundreds of pairs of shoes. The footwear won’t last long when the students pass them out on the streets of Choluteca, Honduras next week.

Getting a pair of shoes isn’t the only struggle for families in the third-world country, many are malnurished and lack proper housing.  The students will also work with children with AIDS in a local orphanage.

While students are excited about their upcoming journey, Pastor John Drage says students will likely be a bit depressed when they return and compare their lives to the great needs in Central America.

The students hope to take their enthusiasm for mission work and make a renewed commitment to service here in the heart of Missouri.

The students leave today and will send pictures to KRCG to show you people receiving all the donated shoes.
