GCLA New Missions Website

GCLA has a new Missions website!  It’s geared toward those who have gone, plan to go, or are interested in going on a short-term mission trip to Latin America.  The new site is super cool, has RSS feed, lots of pictures, and a place for you to share your story about your experience in Latin America.

Due to the change in the website, the place to apply is now http://www.gclamissions.com, click on the "Register" tab.  I apologize that the address I had on the info sheet was incorrect.  The week I had to print the info sheet was the very week their website was in transition, so I had to just go with the info I had at the time, even though I suspected it would be changing.

If you find that any of my links to GCLA-related sites are not working, please let me know.  It’s hard for me to remember all the places I might have linked to their site, so I might have missed some.

UPDATE:  The link to the Training Manual is not working yet.  I’ve left a message on their site, so hopefully they’ll get that fixed soon.  In the mean time, I have uploaded the pdf to my server.  Here’s the link.

Why Go? (2)

Here is the video from our trip in 2007.  Lots of reasons to go!

Why Go?

Experiences from foreign mission trips that every Christian should have:

  • Step out in faith to trust God to raise support
  • See their gifts and talents used
  • Experience the spiritual bond with Christians from another culture
  • See how God is worshiped in another culture
  • See the poverty, and feel the compassion
  • See the spiritual darkness, and feel the drive to share the gospel
  • See fruit of their labor
  • Come to understand the similarities and differences between the U.S.and another culture
  • Learn flexibility and the feeling of having your life not in your own control, and trusting God with it.

Info Meeting

If you have any interest or curiosity about going to Honduras for Spring Break, we will be having an info meeting on Thursday, November 20 after Axis.  Axis is meeting in Strickland 210 at 8pm, so the meeting will probably be at 9 in one of the rooms across the hall.  If you are interested in going, but can’t make it Thursday night, email us, and we’ll be sure to get you all the info.

Micro-Loans

One of the awesome projects going on in Choluteca is the micro-loan project. This project provides small loans to entrepreneurs to help them start, improve or expand their business. This is a fantastic project that will not only help the families whose livelihood depends on these small businesses, but will also add value to the community.  Read more about the micro-loan project.

Here is a slideshow showing some of the businesses that have already benefited from the program.  When you look at the business owners, imagine also their families whose standard of living is improved by the new income, and also the customers who benefit from improved products and service.  Slideshow courtesy of the GCLA Foundation blog.  Visit the original post

Sponsor Tour

On November 7, Pastor John Drage took a group of sponsors to visit Choluteca and learn about the ministry projects there.  Here is the Casa Hogar Vida blog post about their visit.  Lots of pictures!

New Site Under Construction

Welcome to the new and improved Rock Honduras website.  All the same info is still here, it’s just a little smoother, easier to update, and now has RSS feed!

The site officially goes live on November 20, so until then consider it under construction.

Thanks for visiting!
